Estudantes mães: identidades no PROEJA

Abstract

The general objective of this research was to understand the construction of the identity of student mothers in PROEJA Mulheres of the Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de Pernambuco (IFPE), on Campus Paulista. The specific objectives were to know the socioeconomic, family and school profile of the women who study at PROEJA at IFPE in the Paulista Campus; to reflect on the contributions of PROEJA Mulheres to the construction of the identity of the student mothers; and to register the student mothers’ narratives in the form of a collection of narratives. The theoretical framework used was based on authors who study identities, narratives and feminism. The research was developed through a qualitative approach, and it is comprehensive and narrative. The participants were women who studied at PROEJA Mulheres and started the course in 2018, 2019 or 2021. The data of the research were collected remotely through questionnaires and narrative interviews. After organizing and interpreting the answers to the questionnaires, eight students were selected to participate in narrative interviews, which were transcribed and analyzed. The Educational Product of this research is a collection of narratives of student mothers from PROEJA Mulheres. Three narrative groups were identified in the results. In those groups, the students reported that they had to stop studying for reasons related to pregnancy, marriage or work. PROEJA Mulheres, as a public policy, guaranteed their right to education and promoted the reconstruction of their identities as students. This research facilitated a better understanding of women who study at PROEJA Mulheres as subjects in society and their impact on socially established relationships with other subjects. By promoting the listening to the students' stories, it contributed to a more comprehensive knowledge of their specificities and needs, and, in this way, to the improvement of PROEJA Mulheres
