Modelo primary nursing como estratégia de integração entre gestão e assistência em enfermagem: revisão de escopo

Abstract

The Primary Nursing model, conceived by nurse Marie Manthey, is patient-centered and seeks to integrate nursing care delivery and management through the nurse's continuous accountability for planning, executing, and evaluating care throughout the entire hospitalization period. The objective was to map available scientific evidence regarding the application of Primary Nursing as a strategy for integrating nursing care delivery and management. This study is a scoping review conducted in accordance with JBI recommendations, utilizing the PCC strategy to formulate the guiding question and the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Searches were performed in the Web of Science, Scopus, IBECS, MEDLINE/PubMed, CINAHL, EMBASE, and LILACS databases, covering studies published between 2016 and 2026. After applying eligibility criteria, eleven studies conducted in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, and Brazil comprised the final sample. The findings indicate that Primary Nursing contributes to continuity of care by fostering work organization, strengthening clinical leadership, improving inter-team communication, reducing missed care, and enhancing the quality of care delivery. It is concluded that Primary Nursing holds significant potential to strengthen the integration of nursing care delivery and management, promoting patient-centered care, professional autonomy, and the quality of healthcare services.
