The study is grounded on the understanding of leisure as a social right and an urban function that depends on material, symbolic, and management conditions enabling broader access and more diverse uses, also intersecting with everyday, place-based tourism dynamics. Accordingly, the general objective was to assess to what extent Várzea Square fosters leisure appropriation by children and adolescents, supported by specific objectives addressing access and accessibility, socio-environmental comfort, leisure infrastructure/equipment, and motivations and barriers reported by users and guardians. A case study design with a predominantly descriptive approach was adopted, integrating quantitative and qualitative data. Data collection included a semi-open structured questionnaire administered through Google Forms between May and June 2024, totaling 51 valid responses, as well as field visits with photographic records and systematic observations guided by an instrument aligned with the questionnaire. Findings indicate frequent family use of the square, although with low adolescent representation and a strong concentration of activities around the playground and the sports court. Key barriers include perceived insecurity, insufficient lighting, poor accessibility, lack of signage, limited shade, and damaged play equipment, in addition to conflicts associated with the disordered occupation of space by informal commerce on specific days and times. Recurring demands highlight the renovation and maintenance of the playground, expansion of sports facilities, strengthened institutional security, landscape improvement, and regular cultural and recreational programming. The study concludes that expanding children’s and adolescents’ appropriation requires integrated urban design interventions and active management strategies to consolidate the square as a democratic leisure environment and a catalyst for community belonging. This study examined how pedagogical tourism is addressed in the Integrated High School at IFPE Campus Recife, reaffirming its relevance as an formative practice. The analysis provides a foundation for implementing strategies that enhance this approach in the school context, contributing to the strengthening of the teaching-learning process and the integral education of students. The research adopted a descriptive and qualitative approach, combining a literature review on public policies, educational projects, and pedagogical tourism practices in Recife with data collection through open-ended questions addressed to IFPE Campus Recife teachers. Eight questions were applied, allowing the understanding of teachers’ perceptions of the impact of pedagogical tourism on the teaching-learning process and on students’ appreciation of the city. The findings indicate that pedagogical tourism at IFPE Campus Recife has great potential as an formative strategy, capable of linking academic knowledge with cultural experiences, thus reinforcing both learning and students’ emotional connection with their environment. However, further articulation is still needed for the effective development of such activities. Tue, 09 Sep 2025 00:00:00 GMT https://repositorio.ifpe.edu.br/xmlui/handle/123456789/1997 2025-09-09T00:00:00Z https://repositorio.ifpe.edu.br/xmlui/handle/123456789/1982 Cine Cosme e Damião: cultura e lazer em ação - o impacto de atividades culturais e de lazer na redução da vulnerabilidade social de jovens Recifenses This study presents a sociocultural intervention proposal for the Cosme e Damião neighborhood, located on the border between the municipalities of Recife and Camaragibe, an area marked by socioeconomic vulnerabilities and a lack of public policies aimed at culture and leisure. The initiative, named Cine Cosme e Damião, proposes open-air cinema sessions integrated with a community cultural fair, aiming to promote access to national audiovisual productions, strengthen community bonds, value local identity, foster the solidarity economy, and encourage youth leadership. The project is based on participatory methodologies, involving residents in all stages — from film selection to activity organization — and establishing partnerships with academic institutions, public agencies, community leaders, and local businesses. The territorial analysis, carried out using secondary data and community consultations, revealed structural shortcomings but also potential for cultural actions capable of redefining underused public spaces, such as the parking lot of the local metro station. Inspired by the Cine Várzea project, developed in Recife’s West Zone, Cine Cosme e Damião seeks to integrate cultural, educational, and economic dimensions, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 4, 11, and 17). The intervention is expected to contribute to reducing social exclusion, strengthening community networks, and creating new development opportunities for the neighborhood’s youth and families, while also serving as a reference for public policy initiatives and replication in other territories.
