Uso de Wetland construída para tratamento das águas do riacho cavouco

Uso de Wetland construída para tratamento das águas do riacho cavouco
The scarcity of basic sanitation infrastructure in urban centers results in severe envi
ronmental degradation and public health problems. In Recife, a significant portion of
domestic sewage is discharged untreated into water bodies, as occurs in the Cavouco
Stream, a tributary of the Capibaribe River. Given the high cost of implementation (CA
PEX) and operation (OPEX) of conventional systems, this work is based on Water
Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) to propose and evaluate the technical feasibility of a
Vertical Subsurface Flow (VSF) Constructed Wetland phytoremediation system in Cai
ara Park. Based on primary data, an influent flow of 69.120 m³/day and Biochemical
Oxygen Demand (BOD) concentrations incompatible with Class II waters were found.
Theoretical sizing indicated the need for 89.096 m² of filter bed for the complete trea
tment of the flow. However, the topographic survey revealed a usable area of 18,000
m², making the integral model unfeasible and justifying the adoption of a bypass sys
tem capable of treating 14% of the flow (9.775 m³/day). When comparing this prelimi
nary design with the actual pilot project executed on site, it was observed that the
engineering adopted an even more conservative hydraulic load (432 m³/day) to gua
rantee purification efficiency in the face of the high pollutant load. It is concluded that
the system is topographically and hydraulically viable, harmonizing sanitation infras
tructure, landscaping, and low operational cost.

Injeção de nata de cimento para reforço do terreno de fundação de um prédio tipo caixão
This case study analyzes the application of cement grout injection as a technique for reinforcing the foundation soil of a box-type building in Vitória de Santo Antão, Pernambuco. The main objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of the method in correcting pathologies, such as cracks and differential settlements, which originated from failures in soil compaction and construction defects that compromised the structural stability of the building. The methodology adopted included a literature review, analysis of technical reports and project plans, and visual inspections in the field to diagnose the anomalies. The execution process of the recovery consisted of injecting cement grout under controlled pressure to fill voids and improve the bearing capacity of the soil. The results, verified through monitoring of the structure after the intervention, demonstrated the stabilization of settlements and the mitigation of pathologies, confirming that the technique significantly improved the geotechnical characteristics of the soil. It is concluded that cement grout injection proved to be an effective and viable solution for ensuring the safety and stability of the foundation, serving as a practical reference for structural rehabilitation projects in similar contexts.

Urban pavement management in Brazil is characterized by a reactive intervention culture, which leads to high public expenditures and premature infrastructure obsolescence. This study proposes a financial analysis of the impact of preventive maintenance on interlocking concrete block pavements, based on Life Cycle Cost (LCC). The methodology included the design of a reference cross-section, cost assessment using SINAPI data, and the simulation of two scenarios over a 20-year horizon: Scenario A (preventive maintenance every three years) and Scenario B (major corrective maintenance in the 12th year). The results indicate that the preventive strategy presents a net present value of R$ 188,440.20, making it 15.86% more cost-effective than the reactive strategy (R$ 218,318.32). It is concluded that low-cost interventions, such as joint refilling and manual sweeping, are strategic investments that ensure structural stability and the financial sustainability of public managemen

Proposta de implementação da construção enxuta em uma empresa de pequeno porte
The construction industry has historically presented high levels of waste, rework, and low productivity, largely resulting from the lack of structured planning and systematic management practices. In this context, Lean Construction emerges as an approach capable of promoting significant improvements in project performance. This article aims to analyze the application of Lean Construction principles in a small-sized construction company, referred to in this study as União Engenharia Ltda. (fictitiousname), through a case study. The methodology is characterized as an exploratory qualitative research, supported by descriptive quantitative analysis, based on a literature review, direct observation, semi-structured interviews with key employees, and a questionnaire survey. The results reveal problems related to material waste, rework, lack of standardization, communication failures, and absence of formal planning. Based on the analysis, recommendations grounded in Lean Construction principles and Production Planning and Control (PPC) are proposed, aiming at continuous improvement and increased production efficiency.
