The present work proposes to present the results obtained in the experience of implementing and maintaining an agroecological garden at the José Minervino Roberto Municipal School located in the Quilombola Community of Engenho Siqueira, which is located in the municipality of Rio Formoso-PE. This experience report is part of the extension project called “Agroecology at school”: promoting environmental education and food security for quilombola children” where several actions related to agroecology and environmental education were carried out, with an in-depth look at sustainability, recycling and reuse of solid waste such as the use of tires and pet bottles, as well as the use of organic waste in the production of compost, and food education. The benefits of having a garden at school for educational purposes were also discussed, in which it is possible to work in an interdisciplinary way on different subjects, promoting the popular knowledge that children obtained, and developing the ability to work collectively. The experiences we had were quite successful as we were able to clearly see the changes that the implementation of the agroecological garden caused in the environment, not only at school, but also in relation to social life on the part of the students involved. With all that was experienced, we can infer that the work was able to expose observations regarding the positive points that stood out most in the project's performance, in this two-year period, involving learning about agroecology as a whole, knowledge acquired about the vegetable production with regard to plantations carried out in the agroecological garden, as well as practices carried out in relation to agroecological principles. Due to these factors, the construction and maintenance of this space in the school environment is interesting

Studies to assess soil quality in tropical regions have grown considerably in recent years. These studies are based on soil quality indicators, which are measurable properties (quantitative or qualitative), which assess the physical, chemical and biological properties, and allow for the characterization, evaluation and monitoring of changes occurring in the agroecosystem. The soil fauna performs in notable processes in the litter-soil interaction, such as, fragmentation of organic matter, decomposition and nutrient cycling, and they are heavily influenced by the external environment. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the density and diversity of epigeal macrofauna as an indicator of the effect on different systems of agroecological and conventional land use in the Jundiá de Cima settlement, in Tamandaré/PE. The land use systems studied were sugarcane in a conventional system, an agroforestry yard, integrated and sustainable agroecological production (PAIS) and a banana plantation in an agroecological system. Eight pitfall traps were installed in each area to capture soil fauna organisms, in ziczag fashion, totaling 32 traps. The installation of the traps took place on November 11, 2021 and the collection of epigeal macrofauna took place seven days after installation. A total of 991 individuals of the epigeal macrofauna belonging to the following orders were collected: Acarina, Aranea, Blattaria, Coleoptera, Diptera, Hemiptera, Hymenoptera, Isoptera, Ortoptera and Thysanura. There was a predominance of the order Hymenoptera, represented by ants, in all evaluated systems. The land use systems interfere directly in the epigeal macrofauna, and the agroecological systems provided better diversity and evenness indices for the epigeal macrofauna when compared to the conventional sugarcane cultivation system. These results show the importance of the epigeal macrofauna as a bioindicator of soil quality in agroecosystems

Seedling is one of the main inputs in an agricultural production system, being directly related to the productivity and quality of the fruit. Aiming at the production of good quality seedlings, there is a need to find alternative substrates and containers that are economically viable and environmentally correct, especially for family farmers in agroecological systems. In this context, the experiment was carried out with the objective of evaluating container volumes and different substrates on the emergence and production of yellow passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims) seedlings. The experiment was carried out between September and November 2021, in Barreiros - PE at the IFPE Campus Barreiros. A completely randomized design was used, in a 2x5 factorial scheme, with four replications. The treatments consisted of two volumes of substrate (300 cm3 and 500 cm3) and five substrates with different amounts: soil + fertilizer (NPK); soil + sheep dung (1:1); soil + sheep dung (2:1); soil + poultry litter (1:1) and soil + poultry litter (2:1). The percentage and rate of emergence speed were evaluated. Regarding the seedling development characteristics, the following were analyzed: number of leaves, seedling height, stem diameter, length of roots, fresh and dry mass of shoots and roots. For the production of yellow passion fruit seedlings, the reuse of 300 cm3 disposable cups is a sustainable alternative for the small farmer. The substrates soil + sheep manure and soil + NPK stood out, producing yellow passion fruit seedlings of better quality, with this, the substrate with the composition of soil + sheep manure (organic fertilizer) is a good substrate option and can be produced on the property without adding external input. The use of soil plus poultry litter (in the proportions 1:1 and 2:1) as substrate hinders the proper development of the seedlings

Marketing represents an essential step in the production chain of family agricultural production. Being responsible for generating income and maintaining the farming family in the countryside. For this to happen, the existence of commercial spaces and institutional purchase programs is essential, such as the National School Feeding Program (PNAE), which establishes that at least 30% of resources for school meals come from products from the family farming. The objective of this study was to characterize the advances and challenges in the execution of Law 11.967/09 regarding the purchase of family agricultural production for school lunches in the city of Barreiros - PE. To carry out this study, it was considered necessary to use qualitative and quantitative techniques through the application of questionnaires. The municipal manager of PNAE, the vice president of the Rural Union (STR Barreiros), the nutritionist responsible for school menus in the municipality, the nutritionist at the Federal Institute of Pernambuco (Campus Barreiros) and the president of the Municipal Council for Sustainable Rural Development were interviewed (CMDRS). Among the various aspects observed in the interviews, the access and implementation of Law 11.967/09 stood out. The PNAE manager in the municipality mentioned that the purchase of foodstuffs from family farming this year benefited only four family farmers. One of the barriers pointed out by the manager in accessing the program was the difficulty in documentation and the fact that the purchase process takes place through a public call, as provided for in the law. Both the rural union and the municipal council highlighted the lack of resources for institutional purchases by the PNAE and difficulties in the organization of production as factors for low adherence to the program. Both nutritionists interviewed also mentioned as challenges in putting the PNAE into operation the lack of contact with farmers, documentation and their difficulty in accessing public notices via the internet. Considering the number of settlements and agricultural families in the municipality of Barreiros, accessing the PNAE as provided for in Law 11.967/09 is urgent when we think about strengthening the local production chain and promoting income generation for agricultural families
