Sustentabilidade na gestão hoteleira: um estudo na região metropolitana do Recife

Abstract

In contemporary times, the hotel industry is one of the economic segments of tourism that is constantly expanding in the world. In this way, it is increasingly understood the importance of hotel potential in promoting sustainable development, in order to minimize the impacts that these ventures cause on the environment, culture, economy and the local community. The present paper discusses the issue of sustainable development in the means of lodging based on the collection of important information, evidencing situations of environmental and cultural preservation in the management of hotel developments. The conduct to adopt measures aimed at increasing the knowledge about sustainability in the hotel industry has been a mark of the market, representing a differential of competitiveness among the companies in this segment, within the management of means of lodging, with emphasis for sustainable development. Preserving nature and promoting sustainable development has been a trend of tourists when they propose to choose the means of accommodation, even if, for that, they have to pay a little more for services. The consumers of this service increasingly tend to give greater importance to the conservation and preservation of natural ecosystems and the environment of hotel developments, since they realize that this whole context is interlinked with tourism activities as a primary purpose. The research clarifies the importance of the management of sustainable practices in hotel developments and presents relevant data so that entrepreneurs can perform actions based on sustainable development, clarifying situations that add to the improvement of economic, environmental, social and cultural aspects. Thus, the general objective of this research was satisfactorily addressed, since it was possible to identify the main practices and their possible indicators. Through the fulfillment of this objective, some similarities and divergence between theory, discourses and practice were identified. Nevertheless, it is observed that it has much to improve them, mainly, when applied to the complex hotel activity.
