Sludge generated from water treatment can be efficiently managed through
vermicomposting. This work aimed to reuse sludge from the Water Treatment Plant to
produce vermicompost from organic waste and apply it to plant cultivation. The
methodology consisted of assembling an aerobic vermicompost bin, using 70% dry
foliage, 20% organic matter, 5% sludge and 5% earthworms. After the process, the
final compost was tested in two sowing groups, organized in triplicate: Group 1
received the vermicompost mixed with an inert compost, while Group 2 used only the
inert compost to plant coriander seeds. The experiment was monitored for 31 days,
evaluating the temperature, humidity of the compost and physical characteristics of the
plants (stem and leaves). The results showed that 100% of the coriander seeds in
Group 1 germinated and developed, while in Group 2 only 33.3% germinated, with the
rest not showing development. Therefore, it is inferred that sowings with vermicompost
were more efficient, demonstrating that its presence improved soil conditions, favoring
both germination and plant growth.
