Resumo

Garbage is currently a major problem for society and the environment. Every day people become more consumerists and consequently produce more waste. Added to this is the fact of incorrect disposal of garbage. In Brazil, the vast majority of cities deposit their garbage in open dumps, which has negative impacts on the environment. In this scenario, it is necessary to take measures aimed at raising the awareness of the population about problems caused by the generation of waste and its incorrect disposal. Therefore, the school as a trainer of citizens cannot fail to explore this theme, demonstrating the problem and contributing to possible solutions. In view of this, it is the role of the teacher to use pedagogical strategies in the classroom that attract the attention of students and that place them at the center of the teaching-learning process, so that they can build concrete knowledge so that they can apply them in different ways. your day to day. Therefore, this work aimed to explore the garbage theme through teaching by investigation with students from the 3rd year of elementary school in the early years. The theme was developed divided into three moments, the first meeting in which the questioning of the theme was carried out and the raising of the questions to be solved, after which the students had 15 days to develop the research and solve the questions raised and the third moment in which the students presented the material they produced. All work was carried out remotely due to the COVID19 pandemic, which interrupted face-to-face classes. According to the results found, the students were able to understand the subject well, bringing well-crafted answers to the questions addressed, in addition to presenting easy-to-execute solutions that help to reduce the production of waste in their homes. Thus, the methodology of teaching by investigation proved to be an effective didactic strategy for the construction of students' knowledge, contributing to the development of their competences and abilities.
