Conhecimento da equipe de enfermagem sobre o risco de queda em pessoas idosas hospitalizadas

Abstract

Objective: to evaluate the knowledge of the nursing team about the risk of

falls in elderly patients in the hospital environment. Methodology: Cross- sectional study, with a quantitative approach, carried out in two hospitals

located in the rural and hinterland of Pernambuco. Data collection was

carried out during the months of March and April 2023, in which a semi- structured questionnaire was used with variables related to

sociodemographic information, professional training and knowledge of risk factors for falls in a hospital environment. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency distribution. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS software, version 21.0. Results: The sample consisted of 84 nursing professionals, of which 63.1% (n=53) were nursing technicians. Regarding the sociodemographic profile, the majority of participants were female (67.9%, n=57), with an average age of 38.64 (SD=11/52). Regarding professional experience, the average length of service was around 5.5 years (IQ= 2/11). The study assessed the nursing team's knowledge about falls in elderly patients in the hospital. The results showed that 27.4% (n=23) had insufficient knowledge, 28.6% (n=24) had regular knowledge, and 44.1% (n=37) had sufficient knowledge. The items with the highest frequency of errors were related to the consequences of falls and professional duties related to notification, with 4.8% (n=4) correct and risk assessment, 4.8% (n=4). Conclusion: There was insufficient knowledge among the nursing team about the risk of falls in hospitalized elderly people, which highlights the continued importance of training and awareness to ensure a comprehensive and effective approach to preventing falls in elderly patients.
